Musicians at home in Portland
I showed up to photograph these two artists, musicians & friends of the Fort, 2 hours earlier than scheduled on a recent Sunday morning. Samuel wasn’t home, Hannah was enjoying her Sunday. My mistake in timing was met with smiles, magazines, ginger tea, and an invitation to creep around their incredible shared house in NW Portland at my leisure. I did so, and now I think I’ll show up 2 hours early to every photo appointment. It was... Read More
Music contributor – Ryan A. Schowen mixtape
It’s been an age since we’ve done anything with music in the fort. Thank goodness Mr. Schowen descended upon Portland from sunny Alaska recently, and brought in tow his excellent taste in music. Ryan isn’t a new transplant, he’s lived here before, but now he’s here for reals, for keeps, and is enriching our fair city with a nearly finished doctorate in Political Philosophy. I do not know how this man finds some of these... Read More
music: Fang Island & Gobble Gobble
GOBBLE GOBBLE Time for some music! Alright let me just say I’m not a fan of house parties. The only exception are Ben’s house parties, because they are civilized by way of Bulleit Bourbon and other choice spirits. And excellent music, like this video above. I WANT to be in that room. I’m certain it smells to high heaven of human, but come on, live indie electro? This is QUALITY. They’re called Gobble Gobble, which is seasonally... Read More
Typhoooooon
Man it’s been a while since I’ve written anything about music, or uploaded a playlist. That is to mean I haven’t had anything to say about the subject until I decided to spend a moment on Typhoon. Sparked, the other day, when I saw the band arrive (largely) intact into a dimly lit cinema where I was sitting and I realized, these people are in my life, why haven’t I posted about them? Happily, I gave a refrained shout out in-theatre... Read More
Caribou, Florence + The Machine
We all know and love Caribou’s latest album by now. Their video for Sun has probably been seen or heard of, but in case you missed it here it is in its dream-like glory. I love these women! They are total art moms partying after a gala at the academy. The soul patrol group that comes in with Kid n’ Play hair and incredible sneaks are such a fantastic mix with the art moms. I can dig it, it brings life to the song that I already loved. So... Read More
Vidz for your ears or eyes

Stomacher
Thanks to the Vimeo HD Channel I now have a new free album from a solid group here on the West Coast. These guys hail from San Francisco and first caught my attention with their music video for a song called Untitled/Dark Divider. It is shot with a Canon 5D Mark II camera in a variety of locations – I’m proud to see Oregon + The Columbia River Gorge on here! Those are my spots! In addition there are some stunning shots of Yosemite, Prague,... Read More
Come On Back Home – Mixtape!
DOWNLOAD Come On Back Home – a FORTPORT Mixtape You know that feeling when you go back to your old room in your parents house. Perhaps it’s been converted to a craft room, or a guest room. The warm white sheets, the stale teenager smell, which is basically your lingering scent from years ago. The feeling of a nap coming on. This mixtape is what that sounds like – from the drive there, to kicking your shoes off and walking around... Read More
Mixtape – Get Me To Africa
DOWNLOAD Get Me To Africa Mixtape This weeks tape is an explosive little number. Representing Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, and more, it’s as diverse as it is exotic. I’ve loved the entire continent for decades and this is a little cross section of my gatherings. As a side note the bird on the cover is a Kori Bustard of central Africa, likely shot in or around the Namib/Kalahari deserts. Some of the tracks are cinematic in scope,... Read More
Fort Mixtape – #1!
This is exciting, our first mixtape! Having been inspired by the incredible bloggers that we follow often & the wonderful world of sharing music (Kitsune Noir + ISO50 + The Porch + Skull4Brains) I thought it was high time we contribute. So for this inaugural mixtape, the Fort has converted to the great teachings of Islam. Perfect timing, right? You were thinking about converting anyway, this will totally be the soundtrack on your journey to Mecca.... Read More
