3rd World Jim Jam Mixtape
I’m not sure how to say this exactly, but this is probably the craziest mix I’ve ever put together for anyone. I mean crazy!
If you’ve never heard Balinese temple music, a Native American war dance, Tibetan children’s choirs, or beats from the Favelas of Rio, then you’re in for it. Lets call it a cluster of funk, as diverse as the United Nations.
Here’s the shakedown:
01. Introspective – Outlandish
02. Retorno de Jedi – Bonde Do Bogdov, MC Pe DePano
03. O… Saya – A.R. Rahman
04. Starlight in Daden – Ekova
05. Beyond Words – Outlandish
06. Liquid Dance – A.R. Rahman, Palakkad Sriram & Madhumitha
07. A Child’s Prayer – Waterbone Tibet
08. Kepandung Sita – Sekaa Kecak Puspita
09. We’re There – Warscout Northern Cree
10. Jayan Tangis – Sekaa Jegog Yuskumara
11. The Wedding Celebration – Moh Alileche
I hope you enjoy the utter madness, but after a listen it’s nice to know that there are some people jamming out in the corners of our globe. As a preview, there is some video footage of the “Kecak” found at track 8, which is Balinese temple music telling the epic Hindu poem, Ramayana. The story follows two characters, Rama + Sita, who depict the Monomyth and is the basis for almost all South Asian culture. (A European counterpart to The Ramayana could be the Adam & Eve story)
