SPACE! POSTERS!

I’ve run across a couple designers creating EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful space posters as of late.  Nows a great time for designers to be taking on space as a topic, with talk of cutting much of our space exportation at the same times we’re finding amazing stuff out there! The two posters above are part of an Astronomy set created by Simon Page. Simon’s work has a great Swiss Grid feeling to it and is highly geometric. Both of the posters above seem to harken... Read More

Christmas Vital Stats 2009

I may be a month or so late on this one but it was too good to pass up. We’ve all received something that we didn’t want or that we loved but was WAY too big for christmas. For those of your who don’t want to send out a link to your Amazon wish list this is a great (and MUCH better looking) solution. Designer and Illustrator Cookie has put together a card to mark all your vital sizing statistics. Best not to lie on this one, this isn’t your driver’s... Read More

Group love – Flick it

Alright this is the beginning. I will do the heavy lifting and find you some groups on Flickr that you need to be a part of, or at least know about. Also side note, I was told the other day that the results that come up in a Google search are rumored to represent about 1% of the information on the internet. So put that in your pipe, and then bring it to the pipe smokers lounge on Flickr.  Read More

Covered in scales, in space

This is our first post on fashion. I didn’t originally think of this space as a place to comment on what is happening on the runways of Paris and beyond, so I think I’ll save it for special occaisions. I’ve been watching this show over and over again for a couple months now, I really am a fan of what is happening here. I’ve always loved Alexander McQueen and think his concept-driven shows are thoughtful, full of raw talent, and dripping with craft. This... Read More

A Collection a Day, 2010

Lisa Congdon, an artist and illustrator who’s work I have followed and admired for some time has started a new project that is…well…a collection of collections. Lisa is painting, drawing or photographing a collection each day all year and so far they have been really fun! The items that she has chosen and her sense of composition are fantastic.  Read More

56 Leonard Tribeca

What happens when you mix legendary sculptor Anish Kapoor with stunning 21st century architecture? Wouldn’t you like to know. No really  you’d like to know, check it if you want it, the newest skyscraper in Manhattan: From Tronic Studio: Combining a live action helicopter shoot with extensive CG modeling, the film shows the poetic beauty of how the building was conceived, beginning with the elements of each floor descending from the Manhattan sky and landing into... Read More

Dancing cast members

Originally I was going to talk about two of my favorite martial arts films because, well, they’re just too good not to talk about. Then I realized both films involve serious cast-wide dance sequences in them. What are the chances!? Clearly I am the culprit here, there can not be many of these out there. I’ve loved both of these for years, and for your moment of appropriate Zen, check it if you want it: Kung Fu Hustle A self-aware flick with a solid soundtrack by Stephen... Read More

OSU Archives

Of course Flickr is filled with piles of photo resources, Oregon State University has a nice collection that is worthy of respect. A great resource for designers as all images are free of copyright and high resolution. I am so curious about the little birds, they are clearly alive. How on earth were they lined up like that? Alright anyway I just can’t imagine how this was done without gorilla glue. I like to think these were the photographers getting in their skivvies... Read More

Story of a Collection

Someone in a room somewhere made a very, very good decision around the Steven Alan line. Some creative director or team of designers realized that the world is starved for good storytelling. They also realized that there is a certain backlash to blatant advertising techniques that fueled our disposable culture in the last century. How then would someone tell the story of a still disposable product, in the 21st century? Steven Alan’s spring collection video for 2010 hits... Read More
